Shovel Knight

Game: Shovel Knight
Developer: Yach Club Games
Release: TBA 2015
Genre: 2D Platform

Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade; a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

Shovel Knight is going to be released some time in 2015 on Playstation Network, which means PS3, PS4 and PS Vita (official announcement here). Shovel Knight was a successful Kickstarter project and the game was released on PC and Nintendo platforms in 2014 and ended up on many peoples Game of the Year-lists. The game is a 2D platformer made in the style of 8-bit games from the NES era. You control Shovel Knight, a knight armed with a shovel. He uses the shovel to fight (you can pogo-attack with it like Scrooge McDuck in Ducktales) and dig up treasures. Difficulty is pretty hard but not impossible. You will be able to figure out the boss patterns after a few tries and if you liked the old Mega Man games you will feel right at home. There is also a very well written story and an awesome sound track to enjoy. Here’s a good gameplay video.

The Banner Saga

Game: The Banner Saga
Developer: Stoic
Release: TBA 2015
Genre: Tactical RPG

The idea of holding The Banner Saga in your hands and utilising both PS Vita’s PlayStation controls and its touch surfaces while being able to move about freely in the real world is something we’re really keen on developing and seeing in action in 2015.

The Banner Saga is a game you might have heard of, as it was kickstarted with much success in 2012. Finally in 2014 it was released for PC and received high praise for its art, story and turn-based combat. In 2015 it will get a release for PS4 and PS Vita! The game itself is a tactical RPG set in a fantasy world heavily influenced by vikings and Norse mythology. This hand-painted viking world is for some reason falling apart, and heroes gather together to battle this ancient thread called The Dredge. You set out on a journey through the world by forming a caravan. You will need to manage this caravan, keep people fed and happy, while taking on quests and training your troops, and so on.

Some gameplay can be found here.

Release: Released 2014
Genre: Action RPG

Now, Harkyn must draw upon the very sins that landed him in prison to defeat the deamon army and face the wrath of an angry god.

Lords of the Fallen is a Fantasy RPG for the PS4 that reminds a lot of Dark Souls. Some might even say that it is a Dark souls clone. This means the focus is on high difficulty and challenging bosses. You play as Harkyn, a convict who is set free to combat a bunch of gods intent on destroying human kind. He will have to travel to Rhogar, a demonic dimension, to fight against the Rhogar lords who are the gods commanders. If you die in battle, your ghost will remain at your corpse for a short while. You will have to reach your ghost in time in order to regain the XP you lost when you died. Classes available are Warrior, Cleric and Rogue. There is of course also tons of weapons, armor and items to find and equip. You can watch gameplay here.
